Transportation Rules & Regulations

Dear Parent,

The Hereford Independent School District provides transportation for all eligible students. Every Effort will be made to see that the transportation provided is safe and pleasant.

To assure this type of transportation, it is necessary that there be cooperation between school, students and parents. Misconduct will not be tolerated on the bus. We are providing Transportation Rules & Regulations so all concerned are familiar with the transportation Procedures.

We ask that you read and discuss the contents of the Transportation Rules & Regulations with Your student to promote a clear understanding of the responsibilities and expectations for a!! Parties involved.

Bus Rider Responsibilities Prior To Loading

  1. Be careful when approaching school bus stop area.

  1. Be on time at the designated school bus stop areas. Students need to be at their designated school bus stop ten minutes before the school bus .µrives.

  1. Stay off of the road at all times while waiting foi;-the b1.1-s. Bus riders shall conduct themselves in a safe manner while waiting.

  1. Wait for the school bus-on the right side. of the road in an orderly single line.

  1. Wait until the school bus comes to complete stop and the door is opened before approaching the school bus.

  2. When dirt roads are muddy students must meet the bus on the pavement. The place can be worked out wit the driver.

While Riding on the Bus

  1. Bus riders are expected to be courteous to fellow students and the bus driver. They need to follow directions the driver gives them.

  2. Assist in keeping the bus safe and litter free at all times.

  3. Remember that loud talking, shouting, or unnecessary confusion diverts the drivers attention and may result in a serious accident

  4. Keep all parts of your body and all objects inside the, school bus.

  5. Keep feet, books, packages, coats, and all other objects out of the aisles.

  6. The driver has the authority to assign seats.

  7. Bus riders are not permitted to leave their seats while the school bus is in motion.

  8. Horseplay, scuffling, or fighting is not permitted around or on the school bus.

  9. Throwing. anything inside the school bus .or out of the school bus will not be permitted.

  10. Food and drinks are not to be consumed on the school bus.

  11. Cursing, swearing, using rude gestures, will not be tolerated.

  12. Animals may not be brought onto the school bus without special permission from the Transportation Director.

Departing the Bus

1. Students leaving on the right side of the roadway will depart the school bus in an orderly fashion and move lo where the bus driver can plainly see all students who have departed.

2. Students leaving on the left side of the roadway will depart the school bus in an orderly manner and move to a point 15 feet in front of the bus. When safe, the bus driver will signal the students to cross the street.

3. Students should not cross the street behind the school bus.

4. The driver will not discharge riders at places other than the regular school bus stop or at school. No exception will be made without prior written instructions from the parent.

School Bus Disciplinary Action Steps

STEP 1. A student will receive a verbal warning from the driver.

STEP 2. A bus conduct report form will be filled out by the driver stating what the problem is and it will be sent to the students principal. This will result in a student/principal conference and the parents will be contacted and notified that the student bas been placed on probation and further problems will result in a 5 day suspension.

STEP 3. The third violation will result in a 5 day suspension of bus riding privileges.

STEP 4. The fourth violation will result in suspension for the remainder of the semester.

The step procedures established above for disciplinary action may be modified only when the disciplinary action set forth seems to be unwarranted for the incident reported, or the incident reported is of such a severe nature stronger disciplinary action is justified.

The school district is now using a video camera monitoring system on our school buses to assist us with discipline problems. Student who ride our buses may be subject to being videoed.
